about

Although born in Hungary, Martin Herterich calls Sweden his home. The ambient composer's spiritual residence is clearly somewhere between WIlliam Basinski and artists like Library Tapes however, sculpting deeply melancholy piano compositions in a web of analogue tape hiss and echo.

This album was originally self-released as a limited CD-r, created in dedication to the lost lives of two of Herterich's close friends. Knowing this only lends an even greater sense of resonance to these intensely morose recordings, and the album acquires a haunting, almost excruciating emotional power.

Light computer processing helps to break up the mournful piano passages nicely, and 'A Little Lost Without You' breaks up the elegiac tone with a more ambiguous feel that's somewhere between Stephan Mathieu and Boards Of Canada.

Putting a third-party slant on all this is Simon Scott, whose remix arrives as a digital addition to the original album. Scott is fairly reverent with the source material, preserving its textured introspection and adding delicate micro-rhythms to the mix.
